Chapter 5
Melody had the paintings couriered to my house the following week. I’d asked her to come over and help decide the placement of the ten pictures I had purchased from her website. What she didn’t realize was that I had a handyman waiting when she arrived so that we weren’t alone. I was desperate to make sure she got to know the real me before she had a chance to set me aside.
She placed the pictures perfectly, and I swear the wow factor went up a thousand notches by having her art hang in my home. It took roughly two hours to place those paintings in their perfect location.
“You didn’t have to buy my paintings, but I swear seeing them hang in your house makes them look like they’re worth a million bucks.” She walked around the room and down the hallway looking at the pictures as she went.
“Your art makes my house look like ten million bucks.” She straightened, and I could feel her pride. It was like an invisible force field surrounding her. Warm and happy.
“I think I’m going to have to commission a painting of you for above my bed.”
“Ick, why would you want to look at me on your wall?”
“Melody,” my voice contained a warning. I wanted her to stop putting herself down. “You are cotton candy and water lilies and sunshine, why wouldn’t I want to look at that every night and every morning?”
“I think I’m falling in love with you, Paul.” She turned and walked away.
“Don’t run away, you can’t just blurt out that you love me and then take off. Tell me again.” I caught up with her. The crimson blush on her cheeks was charming.
“I didn’t mean to say that out loud.” She bowed her head as if embarrassed.
“You didn’t mean it, or you didn’t want me to know?” I lifted her head so she had to look at me. “I’m falling in love with you too, Melody. You’re perfect for me.” I brushed my lips across hers and ran my fingers through her soft curls. “I say we go out and celebrate love.” Without giving her a chance to argue, I pulled her toward the entry. She grabbed her purse from the table, and I closed the door behind us.
She mentioned an Irish pub that she liked and we climbed into a cab to head there. Paddy’s was a small, raucous place full of life, music and Guinness. It was the perfect place to celebrate.
We snuggled in a booth in the center of the wall and watched the people pass by. We shared plates of shepherds pie, bangers, and mash, and we sipped at our black and tans. It was a perfect evening until I felt her stiffen and begin to shake.
“What’s wrong?” River had been right when she told me a hand on the thigh could tell me a world of information.
I knew when Melody was at the edge of an orgasm, and I also knew when she was at the edge of rage.
